چکیده

Using data from a nationally representative survey conducted in 1998-1999, this paper examines the expenditure of Australian households on domestic and overseas holidays. During 1998-1999, 37% of the estimated 7.12 million Australian households took holidays, of these 55% within Australia, 33% went overseas and 12% took both types of holidays. The size of the domestic and overseas holiday markets was estimated at 5.87 and 2.32 billion dollars respectively. Logistic regression analysis showed that while income, family life cycle and ethnicity influenced their holiday taking behaviour, the impact of these variables was far more significant on the probability of taking overseas holidays than for domestic holidays.
